Rafael de Tours-Bichon (born 15 January 1968 in Tours, France) is a French artist and art historian, conservator, and cultural professional specializing in the preventive conservation and restoration of fine arts. He holds a Master 2 degree in Art History, with a specialization in preventive conservation and the restoration of fine arts, reflecting a strong academic foundation in both historical research and applied conservation practices.
Since 1992, Mr de Tours-Bichon has served as President of Atelier Rafael, based in Nice, where he has been actively engaged in the study, preservation, and creation of works of art. His professional activities bridge traditional conservation methodologies with contemporary artistic practices. In 2006, he expanded his international engagement by becoming President of KaizenGallery 2.1 in Berlin, Germany, fostering cross-cultural dialogue and the promotion of contemporary art. Since 2021, he has also presided over KaizenGallery.fr, an online art gallery dedicated to the dissemination and visibility of artistic and cultural projects.
In addition to his institutional roles, Rafael de Tours-Bichon is a contributor to several reference encyclopedias, including EI3, plans of architectures (Encyclopedia of Islam, Leyden 2008) and Masjid Negara (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 2015). He is the author of numerous articles on art history and creative techniques, and has produced technical documentation detailing the manufacture of materials and products used in the restoration of works of art as well as in the creation of contemporary artworks. His work reflects a sustained commitment to the transmission of knowledge at the intersection of art, science, and cultural heritage.
